The behaviors of an individual are influenced and formed by the broad forces experienced as one journeys through life. What roles do they play in a social environment? What kind of family structure will they create? What relationships will they form? How will one cope as a parent, influencing and teaching their children?

Dysfunctional behaviors can have detrimental effects on all types of interpersonal, family and employment relationships. Behaviors such as gambling, anger, and parental neglect can play a significant role in relationships. Even over-controlling individuals who treat their partner or children as possessions, or exert tight control can harm relationships.

Healthy relationships are vital for many different reasons, such as increasing emotional well being, creating stability, being a good friend, taking away someone’s stress or loneliness, and being counted on in times of need. Learning new ways to communicate, withholding harsh criticism, focusing on positive reinforcement, solving problems between family members, and becoming a source of support will strengthen relationships.
