Positive Mood Log

The quality of our life is determind by the quality of our focus. When we are aware of our feelings we choose which feeling to focus upon. Focusing on negative feelings shortens the time that we spend on the positive parts of our lives.

Tools for Shaping Emotions

Part of the process of emotional healing is to train our senses to focus on the good things and turn them into positive emotions. Maintaining logs and journals are excellent tools for shaping positive emotions that in turn make for positive moods.

For the next 30 days (or longer if you like), try to identify as many situations as possible that lift your mood. Simply list the time of day, a brief description of the situation, the people involved, if any, the mood it put you in and the reason.

Just a Tad of Discipline

In order for you to keep up with your list, you will need a little discipline to be open, observant and aware of the people and things that make you feel good each day.

The list can be as simple or as complicated as you wish. It could be as simple as just sitting on a park bench feeding the pigeons, or getting a surprise phone call from an old friend, receiving a compliment on a work project, or just a smile from a store clerk.

It’s All About How You Feel

Concentrate only on the positive experiences you encounter, and get in touch with the positive moods and emotions they create. When you plan activities that boost your mood and feelings of contentment and happiness you will spend less time and effort on those activities that give you negative feelings.
