“Nobody, as long as he moves about among the
chaotic currents of life, is without trouble.”
Carl Jung
The Problems of Psychosis and Cognitive Function relate to schizophrenia and how people deteriorate into a dark, isolated wilderness of odd thoughts and behaviors. This along with issues like hallucinations, false sensory perceptions and delusions, i.e., equally false beliefs.
Abusing amphetamines, cocaine and LSD may cause psychosis (APA, 2012, 2013). So may diseases of the brain, stress, trauma, bipolar disorder, low levels of dopamine, and abnormal brain structure.
Approximately one percent of the world population suffers from schizophrenia during a percentage of a person’s lifetime (Lindenmayor & Khan, 2012). An estimated 24 million people worldwide are affected by this disorder with about 2.5 million in the United States (NIMH, 2010).
Sufferers of schizophrenia have an increased risk of suicide, with as many as 25 percent of people with this disorder attempting suicide (Kasckow etal., 2011; Meltzer, 2011).
