Your self-esteem is one of your most important human traits. It influences many areas of your life, so assessing your current level of self-esteem should be a top priority.
Take a few minutes and complete the self-esteem quiz. Check which you agree with on each of the following statements:
To determine your self-esteem score, first “reverse-score” your ratings of items 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10. To reverse-score, if you gave yourself a 1, cross it out and change it to a 4; if you gave yourself a 2, change it to a 3; change a 3 to a 2 and change a 4 to a 1.
Now add up your 10 ratings with the new changes to calculate the sum.
The highest self-esteem score you can get is 40 (if you strongly agreed with all of the positively valued self-esteem items and strongly disagree with all of the negative items) and the lowest score is 10 if you did the opposite.
People around the world score an average of 31 on this scale while people in the United States score an average of 32. So, if you scored lower than 31 or 32, then more than 50 percent of your peers have higher self-esteem than you. If you scored lower than 20, then your self-esteem is in the bottom one-third of the population.
If your score is below average, take steps to boost how you feel about yourself.
