Here’s a fun way to put the romance back in your relationship, according to a study funded by the United States Department of Defense in hopes of using the process to help married couples cope with the stress and absense during a loved one’s deployment.
Married couples were shown photos of puppies, kittens and other pleasing sights next to a photo of their partner. They developed more positive feelings toward their partner than people in another group who were not shown similary pleasant photos. This study appeared in the journal Psychological Science and comprises 6 easy steps.
Once you locate eight pleasing pictures (all of a similar size) of your favorite cute puppies, kittens, etc., and a photo of your partner:
- Arrange the pictures in a grid pattern 3 pics across and 3 down, with the picture of your loved one in the center.
- Look at each picture of the cute puppies or kittens.
- Now look at the picture of your partner.
- Next look at all the pictures as one group.
- Repeat steps 2 through 4.
- Keep looking at the pictures until you feel as good about your partner as you do about the puppies or kittens.
