Dopamine

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter involved in the mesolimbic system of our brain that controls all natural reinforcing behaviors such as learning, eating, drinking, pleasure, motivation and sexual activity. It is also the primary neurotransmitter that most addictive drugs are known to release. Dopamine plays an important role in reinforcement and is the reason craving occurs.

The Pleasure Chemical

Known as the pleasure chemical, Dopamine focuses our attention. It gives us emotional reinforcement and helps to direct our energy. Researchers believe that Dopamine is the reason behind some mental illnesses such as Addiction, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Schizophrenia.

Testosterone and Dopamine

The lack of Dopamine hinders our ability to move and is partly to blame for Parkinson’s Disease. It may also contribute to obesity. However it is better known for its involvement in alcohol and substance addictions. Testosterone and Dopamine work together to focus a man, initiate his movement and increase his sexuality.
